I’m still not sure about skinny jeans on someone as curvy as me, but under a long trench, the proportion’s just about right. (With just a sweater? Bad.)
What I wore:
- Trench coat: $60 at Century 21 (half price :)
- Sweater: Christopher Fischer silk/cashmere/cotton, $32.97 at Century 21 (60% off)
Bought both sweater and trench in the few days after I arrived in NYC. Nothing I owned in Sydney was remotely warm enough, so I had to buy a new warm wardrobe, fast!
- Polo shirt: (under sweater) Uniqlo, $5.90 on clearance
- Skinny jeans: Kenneth Cole outlet, $50
- Shoes: Marc by Marc Jacobs, $115 at Loehmanns
These MJ flats, in this black-and-white colorway
- Bag: Longchamp
My very first Longchamp bag, now almost 4 years old!
- Scarf: Descours pure cashmere, $40 (70% off) at Filene’s Basement
- Bracelet: Express, $14.50
- Watch: Fossil, $20 on sale at Macy’s.

For me, this is super casual…
What I wore:
- Jacket: AUD$76.30 on clearance in 2006
Clothes are so much more expensive in Australia that ~$80 for a low-end designer jacket is a decent find!
- Sweater: Muji cotton/cashmere, $18 on clearance
- Jeans: Topshop; $100ish Singapore dollars
- Shoes: Marc Jacobs, $132 at Last Call Neiman Marcus
This style, in purple suede with black leather trim
- Bag: Longchamp
My very first Longchamp bag, now almost 4 years old!
- Necklace: Vintage; gift from my Nanna-in-law
Where I wore it: To a choir rehearsal; learning all the hymns for my first Yom Kippur!

I just checked out the huge sale Macy’s are having right now. The best find? Over 100 different styles of dresses, including some fantastic bargains that will work well into fall.
These three are my favorites:
Updated 90s retro: Michael Kors colorblock dress

A fresh take on a 90s-revival trend (color-blocking) this MICHAEL Michael Kors sleeveless colorblock sheath dress is a scene-stealer. Add tights, a wide black belt and a trench coat or cardigan and you’re ready for fall. It’s now $32.37, down from $129.50.
The chic classic shirt dress for under $20

What can you buy for $20 bucks these days? This AGB belted shirtdress: it’s $19.20, down from $64! It’s a perennially chic choice for work, and will keep going right through fall with tights and a jacket. Available in black or mocha.
Simple summer sun-dress, for a warm escape

If you plan to escape the cold for a warm break this winter, this Calvin Klein Jeans smocked floral-print sleeveless dress is perfect — and it’s now $55.65, down from $79.50. A cute printed dress is perfect for a steamy-hot vacation, and a lot more stylish than shorts and a tee.
So if you need a new dress (for work, wedding or weekend) I highly recommend checking out the dresses at Macy’s — especially the 100 or so on clearance right now. (To find them, follow the link and click ‘clearance’.)

Talk about a sweet deal! This Mossimo satin trench is not only priced right, it’s absolutely scrumptious in that berry color!

This ’suit’ is made up of black jeans and a tailored jacket; I’m not a fan of traditional matching suits. What I wore:
Where I wore it: business meetings

Gloves are such a comfort when it’s chilly. If you’re a chronic texter like me, though, then regular gloves get in the way. Not so with these cute and cozy fingerless gloves from Betmar. They’re just the thing to keep your hands warm without slowing you down!
These long gloves are made of angora and lambswool mix, and they’re available in three colors. They ship worldwide, too!

I just found this on Amazon - amazing price for Betsey Johnson shoes!
We completely agree! They’re perfect to take your favorite little black dress into evening… or to accompany any other party dress you love.

Coco Chanel invented it; Audrey Hepburn made it iconic. The Little Black Dress is still a go-to choice when you need to look good.
What I wore:
- Dress: French Connection. $100+, i.e. expensive for me!
- Singlet: $8.97, Century 21
Makes any neckline a lot more demure, plus a built-in shelf bra keeps everything respectably bounce-free ;)
- Shoes: Marc Jacobs, $132 at Last Call Neiman Marcus
This style, in purple suede with black leather trim
- Bag: Longchamp
- Watch: Fossil, $20 on sale.
- Bracelet: Express, $14.50
Where I wore it: My first-ever Rosh Hashanah. Shana tova!

As much as I love the freedom of combining layers myself, it’s easy to see the benefits of this combined shirt and sweater vest. It’s less fuss and totally cute!
Available is petite sizes S-XL.
